http://www.chevrolet.com/pages/open/default/future/silveradohd.doWorking smarter and stronger under the hood means the new Silverado HD is capable of even more. The dependable available Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 got a boost in muscle, offering a maximum 397 horsepower and 765 lb.-ft. of torque. You’ll get plenty of pull too, with 21,700 lbs. of towing.(1) That’s more than Ford F-350 or Dodge. Despite the boost in muscle, we’ve also managed to make the Duramax quieter than before. Then there’s the standard 6.0L Vortec V8 with Variable Valve Timing, which features improved performance and driveability.
(1) Requires 5th wheel hitch and Regular Cab. Maximum trailer weight ratings are calculated assuming a properly equipped base vehicle, plus driver. See your Chevy dealer for details.
The legendary Allison transmission
Together, the legendary available Allison transmission and Duramax Diesel combo have been proving themselves in the field and on the job for nearly a decade. And to make sure it can handle the increase in torque, we beefed up the Allison six-speed transmission with a stronger torque converter, larger diameter output shaft and more robust clutches. Let’s face it. You can’t afford an unproven, new transmission when you’re towing 21,700 lbs.(1) through the mountains. Need more proof on how tough this transmission is? It’s the same make used in M1 tanks.

Fuel improvements
Engineers managed to not only increase power but also improve highway fuel economy.(1) Using a more aerodynamic front end, high–pressure piezo injectors and a larger 36-gallon tank, it offers up to 680 hwy. miles between fill-ups. That’s like a trip from Houston to Oklahoma City and back to Dallas on a single tank. That’s more than an 11% improvement in highway fuel economy over the 2010 HD. The new, available Duramax is cleaner too, with a 63% reduction in NOx emissions from our previous model.

STURDIER
Rock solid foundation
An all new chassis with a high-strength, fully-boxed steel frame contributes to an increased gross vehicle weight rating. Torsional stiffness has increased by five times, which also improves ride quality. Looking for that fully-boxed frame on a Ford F-250 or F-350? You won’t find it.
Pulls and hauls more
The new Silverado HD has better payload and towing capacities than Dodge. That’s 6,635 lbs. of payload(1) with a gas engine and 21,700 lbs. of towing(2) with a diesel engine. The maximum payload capacity was increased by 21% too. Also, conventional towing was increased to 17,000 lbs.
(1) Regular Cab and gas engine. Maximum payload capacity includes weight of driver, passengers, optional equipment and cargo.
(2) Requires 5th wheel hitch and Regular Cab. Maximum trailer weight ratings are calculated assuming a properly equipped base vehicle, plus driver. See your Chevy dealer for details.
Front-end loaded
Three tons of weight? That’s a walk in the snow for the new Silverado HD. Thanks to a new front suspension system with massive control arms, torsion bars and the largest steering gear we’ve ever used on a heavy-duty pickup, the new Silverado HD now offers up to a 6,000 lb. front gross axle weight rating. So every HD model can easily accommodate a snow plow with the available Snow Plow Prep Package.
Increased GVWR
The fully-boxed frame and all new front and rear suspensions are the biggest reasons for the huge increase in gross vehicle weight rating. Nearly every suspension component on the new Silverado HD is new and bigger and stronger than ever, including three-inch-wide rear leaf springs. So load it up. The new Silverado HD can handle it.
MORE SECURE
Exhaust Brake System
The available new Diesel Exhaust Brake System works with the Allison transmission’s Tow Haul Mode and Automatic Grade Braking features, reducing the amount of conventional braking needed while towing or traveling downhill. That means reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life and more confidence when you’re pulling 21,700 lbs.(1), even on steep grades.

Standard StabiliTrak
Now standard on all single rear wheel models, StabiliTrak uses a combination of braking and engine management to aid in helping you keep the vehicle on the driver’s intended path, particularly during emergency maneuvers. In an instant, it automatically adjusts engine power and is designed to apply the brakes. So if you hit a patch of ice and start to skid, StabiliTrak can apply brake pressure to the appropriate wheel, slow the engine and help the driver maintain control.
Trailer Sway Control
Few things are more unnerving than a swaying trailer. Working in conjunction with StabiliTrak, the new Trailer Sway Control (SRW models only) feature senses trailer sway and automatically applies the truck’s brakes and reduces engine power, if necessary, to help you get back on track. The available Integrated Trailer Brake Controller will also assist with this feature and apply your trailer’s brakes.
Best coverage in America
We’re so confident in the new Silverado HD that we’re backing it with a 100,000 mile/5 year(1) transferable Powertrain Limited Warranty, plus Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation Programs. That’s 40,000 more miles than Ford.
