Featured Builder: Tynecastle Builders

Tynecastle Builders was started in 1997 in Banner Elk, NC. The goal of our company from its inception is to see the home building process through our customers’ eyes. As builders we have the opportunity to build someone exactly what they want where they want it so that it meets their needs but exceeds their expectations.


With this in mind we adhere to a few guidelines. First, we design each home as if we were going to live there. We believe quality is in the details and we make sure it is a home that we would be proud to call our own.

Second, we build our homes one at a time. We pay attention to details and don’t rush through decisions. Because we take our time, we give the design room to evolve. During the building process, we have time to change direction and create the house to function better and to stand out as a work of art within its landscape. We think outside of the box and try to bring each room of each home something different, unique, and creative. Many of our homes feature works by local artisans, including original frescoes.

Part of our unique process is the online documentation of our building progress so that customers can see and share their home from start to finish. We include “in progress” and “completed” photos in each gallery.

Additionally, many of our custom-built timberframe homes have been featured in major magazine articles.


Tynecastle Builders has also begun building “green” with many products and processes geared toward protecting the environment. This process includes harvesting timber from the home site clearing, and using products like recycled blue jean insulation.
